Finding Jesus
For recently retired professor of New Testament, Karl Meyer, Jesus was a character in the Bible, a teacher of wisdom that had traversed millennia. He believed that Jesus had been an actual historical figure, against what some liberal scholars contested. But that Jesus was not someone who would come walking down your stairs, or kneel on your kitchen floor to pet your new dog.
After a series of losses that might have shaken Karl’s grip on sanity, Jesus suddenly becomes much more real to him. Karl had never bothered to even hope for a Jesus so real, and if he had, that imagined Jesus would have been more serious… and less profound.
But that’s all speculation. What happened to Karl, just before Christmas that year, was real and physical and changed everything for him, as well as for people all around him.
